Mirum Pharmaceuticals announced the appointment of Rob Myers, MD, as the rare disease company’s new Chief Medical Officer. Myers will lead Mirum’s global medical and clinical development functions.

Chief Medical Officer Experience

The new Chief Medical Officer, Mirum says, is a widely recognized hepatologist with more than two decades’ experience developing novel medicines. As an accomplished physician-scientist, Myers has had senior leadership roles in both industry and academia.

Namely, Myers’ experience includes contributions to the understanding of the natural history of primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC). More recently, his work has extended beyond liver disease into metabolism and endocrine-related disorders.

Before coming to Mirum, Myers was Chief Medical Officer and Head of Development at OrsoBio. Previously, he held senior leadership positions at Gilead Sciences. At Gilead, Myers oversaw clinical development programs in liver fibrosis, cholestatic liver diseases, and gastrointestinal inflammation.

Myers says he is excited to work with the Mirum team and help advance its pipeline. He calls Mirum a “distinctive rare disease company” focused on “conditions where patients have historically had too few options.”

Mirum CEO Reacts

“Rob is a proven development leader,” Mirum CEO Chris Peetz said. “[His] experience is exceptionally well aligned with both Mirum’s portfolio today and where we are headed. His deep expertise in liver disease, combined with broad clinical development leadership, comes at an important moment in Mirum’s evolution.”

Peetz continued, saying that Mirum expects growth in its commercial portfolio, with an increasingly diverse late-stage pipeline. Myers’ role, according to Peetz, will be critical in “helping us bring breakthrough medicines forward” for those with rare diseases.

Along with the announcement of Myers’ hiring, Mirum said that Joanne Quan, MD, is leaving the company. Quan joined as Chief Medical Officer in January 2024.
